What is credit recovery, and how does it actually work?

Credit recovery is how you retake a course you did not pass, without repeating the whole year. Here is what it is, who it is for, and what to check before you enroll.

If you failed a class, credit recovery is how you earn that credit back without repeating the entire school year. You retake the material, sit an exam, and the credit is awarded by an accredited school — where it counts.

Who credit recovery is for

Credit recovery is specifically for students who have already taken a course and not passed it. It is not a way to get ahead or take a class for the first time. If you have not taken the course yet, talk to your counselor before enrolling anywhere.

What makes a credit actually count

This is the part most people miss. A credit is only useful if your own school accepts it, and acceptance depends on accreditation — an outside body reviewing a school and agreeing its credits are real. Our Program Schools are accredited by Cognia.

RecoverCredits.com is not a school and does not award credit. We write the curriculum, provide the teacher of record and run the course; an accredited Program School awards the credit and records it on a formal transcript.

Questions worth asking before you enroll anywhere

Is there a real teacher, or is everything auto-graded? Who accredits the school issuing the credit? How is the exam proctored? What happens if my school refuses the credit?

On that last one: we contact your school after you enroll to confirm the credit will be accepted. If it will not be, you are refunded automatically — you do not have to file anything.
